Feels Like I've Got A Mullet Already
Published on December 23, 2003 By Frog Attack In Music
So recently I've been hearing a lot about this band The Darkness. Online persons recommend them. Magazines applaud them.

What does the music sound like? Well. It sounds sort of like Deep Purple fronted by The Cure's Robert Smith.

I'm not sure but I think the idea was they were trying to do a sort of satire on that whole long hair WHITESNAKE type of music. But, ironic or not, this whole album has been one annoying tune after another. I feel like trailer park trash. The riffs are irritating. The guy's singing is just... moronic. I don't know. I have a feeling that there is something here I am not getting. But thankfully RHAPSODY had this album so I didn't waste any money on it. Don't you hate it when you read hyped-up reviews of bands and you get all excited and then the actual album is crappy? I mean, this sounds like something my parents would lose their virginity to in the late 70s. And let me tell you something else about this album : the songs get worse and worse progressively. That's weird.

This album is quite a shock to listen to at first. It is completely different than everything out there at the moment. Kinda reminds me of Queen, and that is definitely a good thing. There's a retro feeling to it, and as a whole I think this is a very good album. Sounds like something right out of the 80's and that might not be likeable to most of the younger croud. So maybe this album came out 15 years later than it should, but IMHO that just adds to it's glamour.

I am not into 80's rock at all, but when i first heard The Darkness, they caught my ear immediatly. This is one incredible band and the album Permission to Land is just as good. The guitar is awesome and Justin Hawkins vocals are unlike anything currently in the music industry. They are so original and can only get better with time!
