Documents were recently declassified by British Intelligence that indicate back in the 1970s when the Arab Oil Countries placed an embargo on the Western World, the United States seriously considered invasion of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.

I'm not really sure what meaning this holds to us now. After all, we have now invaded Iraq twice. At least when Bush the First did it he didn't leave troops over there dying for the oil he and his buddies coveted so dearly.

Bush Junior, who could not be bothered to even keep up his flying status when he was in the ANG and according to some accounts, seems to have skipped the entire last portion of his service in the ANG, seems more than happy to leave Soldiers and Marines over there being blown to bits by all the insurgents.

All he has to do is placate us with a few words about "freeing the Iraqis" and "God bless democracy" and hey, we're all smiles again. Yes, our home grown american heroes whose job it is to now not only defend america, but also to "liberate" all other peoples whose leader is a ruthless tyrant.

So--- we never found any weapons of MD that Colin Powell slammed his fist down in front of the UN and INSISTED they had ( I for one believed him at the time --- it was Powell's speech that changed my mind to thinking the invasion was a good idea. hahaha the one time I actually believe the Bush administration and it turns out to be a huge lie.) but North Korea openly ADMITS they are developing weapons of mass destruction, also North Korean peoples are "oppressed" ... I think, but hey who's really checking?

Yet --- no invasion of North Korea?

Hmmm. maybe the Koreans are a little too white? or maybe it is that they have no oil? I'm not sure but as with every thing Bush has done in office, this stinks to high heaven and if he thinks one little trip to the surviving soldiers on Thanksgiving and a Top Gun style appearance on a carrier is going to make me not want to throw up when I see him on TV he is sadly mistaken.

Perhaps time will reveal the invasion to be a masterstroke of genius. Maybe it will reshape the world for the better. Mostly though, it just seems like we are killing off many of the people who volunteered to defend us (hello, remember us Mr Bush your Americans? The ones who have lost all our jobs?) to liberate a people who really don't care and frankly if you're willing to sit back and accept dictatorship you get what you get. France helped us stomp the british centuries ago. We said the monarchy had to go, and that's what happened. The Iraqis should have "liberated" themselves.
Unless this was all about the weapons... but wait there are no weapons. Maybe it was about terrorism, but wait no we never had any Iraqis terrorize the US in fact the US was pretty chummy with Iraq when we were so worried about Iran. All the terrosists are from Saudi Arabia. So in my mind this has got to be about the oil. There just is no other explanation. If it really IS about "liberation" I'm just as pissed, because why should OUR soldiers be dying to free a people who couldn't do it themselves. Hell, we HELPED Saddam stay in power when Iran wanted to bust his ass down.

What really really scares me is there are so many people who, just because their politics are conservative republican, will back Bush on anything just because he is also a conservative republican. They will say anything to justify his actions.

I don't know. Am I being too harsh? The Nasdaq was up 50%. The Dow finished the year 25% up. Surely that counts for something.

I guess I better stick in the link to the story that originated this rambling little post.
