Join Me For Some Ranting
Published on December 9, 2003 By Frog Attack In Misc
Okay. So I am at lunch. I take my lunch every day from 2pm - 3pm right after my boss gets back from his lunch break. Well, today after I eat I have some things to get done so I call the library to re-check some books and then change the lightbulb in the spare room so that ---oh wait, wait a minute, it's not lighting up --- what the heck, I KNOW this is a brand new bulb. Oh, what's this? The LIGHT SWITCH seems to be completely screwed up. Probably from the EARTHQUAKE we had yesterday. So I call Housing Maintenance and the lady says she has an opening TODAY at 3pm. So I TAKE it. No big deal, I figure. Well I call work and tell my boss, "hey so they are coming to fix my house can I come back from lunch late? Maybe 3:15 or 3:30?" and he is like "you have 30 minutes left." "Yes I KNOW that but the appointment is at three". and he sort of hems and haws and with a sigh "ooookay." I mean, you've got to be kidding me! This is the guy who calls in late for work every other day. Who was late on Saturday as a matter of fact. And he doesn't call early either. If he is supposed to be there are 9am he will call at 9:20 to let you know he will "be late". Uhm, yeah, thanks for the heads up there guy. I canNOT believe him sometimes.

The best part is, he doesn't have to DO anything extra! I have an employee there, which means he won't even have to come out of his office to make up for me being half an hour late back for lunch. I mean, how exactly does this affect him? It doesn't. Because if I'm there I work and he doesn't and if I'm not there he still doesn't work. You know, sometimes I think "he's not so bad" and I promise to think only good thoughts about him and say good things about him. But then something like this happens. And this is pretty minor I'll admit. But I mean, REALLY! Like HE can be late all the damn time but the ONE DAY I need some extra time to GET MY HOUSE fixed it's this major ordeal? I don't think so. Oh my boss. What am I going to do with him? Perhaps grind him into a fine paste and use that to polish my furniture.

Well, I can certainly agree, and understand with your rant. Infact I could go on for DAYS with work rants, but I'm the boss, not the employee (shrug). I know it doesn't help to know that it's a universal frustating, that tends to be reciprocal, but it's the truth.

Is there anyone above this person that you could go to? Report him to? Anything?

In the mean time, take up yoga....that way when he pisses you off in the office you can freak him out by contorting your body into some painful looking, but stress reducing way. Just a thought.

If you haven't seen the movie "Office Space", I highly recommend it as a solution to your problem. Have all your coworkers see it too...including your boss. Unless you're just enjoying the fury, which I understand
